I was surprisingly calm the day of my wedding. I was in bed by midnight the night before and woke up rested and ready. I spent the morning with my family, enjoying an easy breakfast at home. I had finished packing for my honeymoon earlier in the week (the one and only time I haven’t procrastinated when it comes to packing), and it was so nice not to have to worry about that on the big day. After sending that bag off to the hotel, I spent the rest of my day lounging around (in these adorable monogrammed robes I had made from Madison) with my bridesmaids. Besides getting our hair and makeup done, we drank champagne, watched movies, and ate lunch from my favorite spot in town. It was such a perfect start to the day.
Time is funny on your wedding day. It speeds up and slows down and then speeds up again. The first part of my day went by quickly, but the afternoon really slowed down (kind of like the 3:00 hour at work), and then before I knew it, it was time to head to the church. That’s where things slowed down again – and the first time that day that I started to feel a little bit anxious. We all put on our dresses together. With the exception of my mom and sister, I had not told anyone about my dress. Not a word. It was really fun that it was a surprise for everyone – including all of my bridesmaids. My dress was custom-made by Lela Rose. It was such a treat to get to work with her and her amazing team on this special dress. I love the look of an all-white wedding, so I chose white for my bridesmaids dresses, too. Each dress was a different style, and although they were the same color and material, each one looked unique. And my flower girl! She’s adorable, isn’t she? Oscar de la Renta debuted his flower girl collection at the perfect time. The majority of my wedding was blue, white, and pink, and I love how her dress captured all three colors.
After taking some quick group photos, we went back to our little waiting area so we could peek at guests at they arrived at the church. That’s when things started to speed up again. Once the doors are open and you’re about to walk down the aisle, time just flies by. And it doesn’t slow down again for the rest of the night.
