I popped in to Trina Turk to buy an ice bucket and walked out with this dress. (Did you know that she makes some seriously fabulous ice buckets? You’ll have to take my word for it because I can’t seem to find any of them online. They must only be available in the stores. But they’re worth a trip. Trust me.) I was buying the barware when this geometric gem caught my eye. I paused my purchase to try it on and that was that.
There are so many things I love about this shift dress: the cutaway-shoulder silhouette and the triangular print are just two of them. It’s actually a surprising color + print combo from Trina Turk, in my opinion. I always expect over-the-top hues paired with and super bold prints from the designer, but this dress is more subtle. It’s a little more unexpected from her. I like that. The length is perfect (works with flat sandals but it isn’t too short to pair with heels), and it manages to work both as a more casual piece on a summer patio or, accented with some statement earrings, it’s ideal for a cocktail party. You know what else I love about it? It packs well. I mean that I can throw it in my suitcase and somehow it comes out looking perfectly pressed and ready to go. When you’re packing your suitcase for as many summer weddings as I am, that little detail is key.
