If you couldn’t tell from last week’s post, I clearly have a thing for graphic sweaters. (And not just sweaters! Tees, too. I just bought this one.) My latest favorite comes from Lingua Franca, a new line of knitwear created by Guest of a Guest’s Rachelle Hruska MacPherson. The collection actually began as a small project (read the story behind the line here) with MacPherson making one or two sweaters for herself and a couple of friends. After posting a few of the sweaters to Instagram, she started receiving dozens of requests. And there you have it: Lingua Franca was born.
Here’s the best part about these cashmere sweaters: each one is hand-embroidered (!) with an iconic hip hop lyric or phrase. How fun is that? From Biggie Smalls (“It was all a dream”) to Salt-n-Pepa to Lionel Richie (love this one), you’ll find nods to all the greats in this collection. I just love the playful spin the embroidery puts on something as delicate and simple as a cashmere sweater. I managed to scoop up this one for myself which features a statement line from a Salt-n-Pepa classic. I’ve pretty much been wearing it non-stop. The sweater itself is super light (and so super soft) and really works like a t-shirt. It’s become my throw-on-and-go top with jeans and sneakers for running around town. And in the case of last week, it also became my cocktail party top, too. Truth be told, I was in a huge rush to get to a holiday party and simply didn’t have time to come up with an outfit (note to self: think ahead next time). I was already wearing my sweater and all I had time for was a quick switch from jeans to this metallic skirt ($61!). The sweater kept me comfy all night long – not to mention, made for excellent cocktail party chit-chat.
