The best kind of basics are the ones that aren’t quite so basic. Am I right? I love when I find a closet staple that’s simple enough in that it goes with everything but also has some sort of unique detail that makes it just a bit more special. That’s the story with Theory’s Lexanda top. As you know, I’m knee-deep in my obsession with ruffles (just bought this skirt and currently eyeing this dress) so this top was kind of a no-brainer for me.
Striped cotton shirts make up a large portion of my closet. They’re an essential part of my daily uniform. What I love about this particular one though is that it has all the makings of a menswear-style classic, but the the peplum and ruffle sleeve give it that feminine flounce that I love so much. It’s no surprise that this top (which, by the way, is also available in black) has become one of the workhorses of closet this season. From work meetings to date nights, it’s been my go-to shirt on so many different occasions. It really does go with everything. Last week, I paired it with a leather pencil skirt for a meeting and then when it was time to head out to dinner, I swapped the skirt for this pair of frayed (another detail I’m really into lately) denim. I also love the way this shirt looks with a moto jacket. The ruffle sleeves just barely poke out of the jacket, giving the whole look some drama. It’s only been cold enough here like once to do that but you can bet that as the temperature cools down, I’ll be repeating that pairing over and over.
