We’re currently in that in-between period where one day it’s freezing and then the next day, it feels like summer. (Seriously. The temperature was in the 40s when I went to bed last night. Today? We’re expecting highs in the 70s.) This makes getting dressed a little confusing. The key to mastering the transition from winter to spring is all about layering – and it all starts with the outerwear. You need a jacket that’s neither too heavy nor too light and goes with everything. Good news: I think I’ve just found the perfect one.
I’ve actually been on the hunt for a new jacket for awhile now. I wanted something that was versatile, lightweight, and easy to pack. I’m happy to report that J.Crew’s newest trench checks all of those boxes and more. A trench coat has always been my go-to during the winter-to-spring transition. It’s the ultimate classic in terms of outerwear. While I already have a long, belted trench (it’s also my rain coat), a shorter option was something my closet lacked. I bought this one the second I spotted it in the catalog and have been wearing it non-stop ever since. It’s the perfect weight – light, but still sturdy enough for a chilly day – and it goes with anything and everything. What really makes this cropped trench a stand out option is the little details. Not only do I love the navy blue collar, but the interior of the coat includes a striped lining and a hidden pocket that comes in surprisingly handy when I’m not in the mood for carrying a purse. Of course, my favorite detail are those detachable (!) striped cuffs. How cute! They add such an interesting layer and you know I’m always up for adding in some stripes whenever possible.
