Happy June 1st. Where did the month of May go? With a birthday and an anniversary – not to mention, the beginning of peony season! – May is an extra special month for me and it always makes me just a little sad when it’s over. It’s always celebration month – and this May was no exception. My husband and I love to entertain – especially in the summer – and with our house finally coming together, we had been wanting to host a fun dinner for friends. My birthday seemed like the perfect excuse. What was originally going to be a small dinner with a few friends turned into a full-blown fiesta (that always seems to happen) that couldn’t have been more fun. With the help of all my favorite party people (read more about them below), this fiesta was one I’ll never forget.
Here’s the thing I know about parties: guests are only as relaxed as their host. A stressed-out host makes for stressed-out guests. The key to avoiding this: help. And this party had plenty of it. First things first: the invitations. A fun fiesta needs an equally fun invitation and there’s only one place to go for that: Ellis Hill. You’ve heard me talk about them before. They’re my go-to for everything from stationery to monogrammed gifts to invitations. (They’re responsible for making all of those pretty party extras I love so much – the pineapple swizzle sticks, for example.) They know how much I love a bright color – especially pink – so all I had to do was tell them it was a fiesta and let them go to work. They came back with a work of art. It was the perfect way to set the tone for the party.
Since this party ended up being larger than we originally planned, we knew we needed to rent some furniture for the event. That’s where Perch Decor came in. They have so many different options when it comes to party rentals (I love this bar and totally want to rent it for something) and after a quick perusal online, I was able to select exactly what I wanted for the party. I’ll be sharing detailed photos of the tablescapes that the Jackson Durham and Perch teams created in tomorrow’s post.
No matter how small or large a party is, there’s always a lot of moving parts. All of those little details require serious organizing and, lucky for me, my cute friend Katie McCann Crow owns Collins Coordination and is the queen bee when it comes to planning. (She also helped plan my rehearsal dinner.) Once we had decided on the who, what, and when, Katie worked to get everything secured, organized and scheduled. (She also helped me source that amazing pineapple piñata). This gal is so detail-oriented and I love it. My parties are always seamless because of her.
