If there’s one thing this month’s travel spree did, it’s remind me just how important versatility is in a wardrobe. Having a well-rounded assortment of pieces that work for a variety of different looks is key – especially when it comes to packing a carry-on. I pretty much lived out of my suitcase for the first two weeks of this month and while there was plenty of mixing and matching happening with denim, it was the dresses that emerged as my jet-set heroes. I’m talking about those no-fuss frocks that are versatile enough to find their way into both day- and nighttime looks. These are the kinds of dresses that simplify a travel wardrobe and ultimately get the most wear overall. This silky blue number from Ulla Johnson is a perfect example of a do-it-all dress. It made an appearance not only on Nantucket, but the following week, too, in New York. I threw it on with these braided leather sandals for a casual lunch and then just a few days later, dressed it up with a pair of low heels and statement earrings for dinner out in the city.
As we transition into fall, I’m looking to add in a few new dresses that can pull off that kind of double duty. A wrap dress is one style that totally fit this bill. Take a look at this floral option from Equipment. It’s a dress you can wear with everything from a pair of sneakers to strappy sandals. The same goes for other wrap-style frocks like this one (throw it on over jeans!) and this one. I’m also eyeing several shift dresses, including this simple LBD and this navy mini.
