summer makeup

Clockwise from top: CHARLOTTLE TILBURY Healthy Glow // MAKE Lipstick // CHARLOTTE TILBURY Palette // AFRICAN BOTANICS Marula Oil

Just because I avoid the sun like the plague and rarely (read: never) have a tan, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a bronze touch – especially on my face. It just means I have to get my glow elsewhere. And by “elsewhere,” I mean makeup. Here, four magic-makers giving me that golden summer glow.

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Healthy Glow – . Lately, “elsewhere” is Charlotte Tilbury. The makeup artist’s “Healthy Glow” cream is nothing short of amazing. It delivers a the most perfect, sun-kissed glow. What I love about it is that the color is subtle. It’s not overly bronze and definitely not a hint of orange. It looks natural, very “lit-from-within.” I’ve been wearing it on the reg and have received multiple comments from friends asking if I’ve just gotten back from a beach vacation. I mean who doesn’t want to look like they just got back from a vacation? Yes, please!
  2. Make Matte Lipstick – I find matte lipstick to be a little unforgiving. It’s a commitment so finding one you really like is key. I was recently introduced to a new-to-me beauty line called Make. After falling in love with their dew pot (it’s amazing), I decided to give their matte lipsticks a go. The verdict: perfection. They deliver intense color without drying out my lips. (I prime my lips with Aquaphor!) They come in a range of amazing colors, too – including one called “Scarlet” that is the most wearable shade of orange-red I’ve ever seen.
  3. Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look  – Where do I even begin? This palette is totally genius. Inspired by Poppy Delevigne’s (yes, please!) wedding makeup, this palette has everything you need for a “I-just-got-back-from-vacation” glow. There’s three eyeshadows, two different bronzers (one for all-over, the other just to contour), a perfectly-peachy-pink blush, and a highlighter. All of that in one simple square compact! Better yet? Each shade is numbered so you know which one to apply first. How’s that for user-friendly?
  4. African Botanics Marula Oil – I usually stay away from any lotion or cream that contains the word “shimmer” in its name. There is a difference (a big one!) between having a summer glow and looking like you just poured a bottle of glitter all over your body. The “shimmer” products usually give me the latter. There’s always at least once exception and for me, this African Botanics oil is it. It gives my skin the most subtle, sun-kissed glow. It’s basically a highlighter for my body. I use it most often on my legs when I’m wearing shorts or a short dress. Not only does it smell amazing (a delicate, beachy scent), but it also hydrates my skin.
