Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.  I go to bed thinking about what I’m going to have the next morning. While the weekends usually consist of going out to new spots for french toast or eggs benedict (this is where you’ll find the best one in Dallas), the weekdays are all about a meal that’s both quick and healthy. I try to mix it up  so I don’t have the same thing every day (I could literally eat avocado toast every single morning), but inevitably I get on certain kicks and right now that kick happens to be smoothies. There’s something so refreshing about a ice-cold smoothie during the summer. Not to mention, they’re easy to make and super healthy. All you need is the right ingredients and a good blender. The Vitamix is pretty much my favorite thing in the whole world. (My sister uses this blender and says she loves it just as much.)  I used to think that smoothies wouldn’t fill me up enough in the morning but I soon realized that wasn’t the case. The key is just adding the right ingredients – things like chia seeds, dark leafy greens, protein powder (this one is my favorite), and nut butters. I find that a power-packed smoothie keeps me full until lunch.

Since you can basically add anything you want into a smoothie, the options are endless. My initial smoothies started out really basic because I wasn’t sure what would taste good together but I’ve gotten more adventurous lately. I prefer a heartier smoothie as opposed to something all fruit. I start with almond milk or coconut water and always add in a leafy green (spinach or kale) in addition to fruit (frozen is a must for a good consistency) and then throw in a few other superfood ingredients like cacao, maca powder, chia seeds, etc.  I have found this little guide to be super helpful. It tells you exactly how much of each ingredient you need to create a smoothie for one.

Of course, Pinterest has been my go-to for inspiration. Below are a few of my favorite recipes I have found so far. I would love to hear from you all on your favorite smoothies. I’m always looking for new concoctions to try out.
