It’s officially spring! And the best part is that it, unlike Chicago and New York City, it actually feels like it. This weather changes everything for me – most noticeably, my mood and general energy level. I’ve never been a cold-weather gal (save for the triple digit days we see here in August) and have always found that after a couple of month of recurring grey days and freezing temperatures, I start to feel sluggish and down. (Not to mention, the frequent trips outside with the puppy are a lot less fun when it’s cold and icy.) When it finally warmed up last week, I noticed a big change: I didn’t feel a chill in my bones, I wasn’t exhausted by three o’clock and my overall mood experienced an instant boost. This weather just makes me feel good.
Spring’s little pick-me-up has me doing things like setting our outdoor patio table for meals (using these for glassware!), taking post-dinner walks, and, of course, pulling out some of my favorite spring pieces. It’s that awkward time of the year when the weather doesn’t quite know what it’s doing: the calendar says spring but we’re still experiencing a couple of winter’s breezes. This is when I rely on my favorite basics – white denim (forget that Memorial Day rule), striped tees, and my tried-and-true leather jacket. That last one is key, in my opinion. If there’s one jacket you need for spring, it’s that one. Heavy coats are no longer and a good leather jacket (take a peek at this one and this one) provides just enough warmth and makes for easy layering. Happy spring!
