In just a few short hours, I’ll be on a plane to Aspen. We’ll be attending a wedding there this weekend, but my sister and I decided to extend our vacay and head up a little early. This is a trip I’ve been looking forward to all summer. The weather in Aspen right now is bliss: warm days and cool nights. It’s the best of both worlds. The 75-degree days are filled with sun which allows for plenty of time outside – walks around town, hikes up the Ute Trail, and drinking margaritas on the patio. The nights cool way down, giving me an opportunity to pull out fall favorites like cozy sweaters (packed this one) and this leather jacket. I’m looking forward to a relaxing, fun-filled six days.
The one thing I’m not looking forward to? Saying bye to Lucy. I hate it. It’s the one thing I dread about traveling. She’s a member of our family and leaving her at home just feels wrong. (It also doesn’t help that I just watched A Dog’s Purpose. It’s a movie that will leave you in tears and make you want to hold on to your dog for dear life.) Do I sound kind of crazy? Maybe. But something tells me I’m not the only dog-mom who feels just a little bit homesick leaving their pet behind. Right?
You’re the not only one! I dread it, too. Our dog sitter reminded me once that dogs can sense your emotions. If you are stressed about leaving your dog, your dog becomes stressed. I now try really hard to pretend everything is normal, happy, and fun for my doggy’s sake. No overlong goodbye at drop off or anything.
Then I sob to my husband on the way to the airport, lol.
Such a good tip. And SO TRUE.
I have a pet as well (Puppy the cat) and it sucks to leave her home but sometimes you just can’t do anything about it! Love your blog though <3

Correct I hate leaving my sweet Westies they are part of the family. The only save and grace I don’t think they know how long you have been gone!! So with that being said I am off to Santa Fe and Vegas soon. Have a great time Bradley and know Lucy will love you same when you get back
We just spent 2 weeks in Aspen… with our dog! We drove up from Texas and he had the best time, the hiking in Aspen is amazing and most trails are dog friendly. It is a long drive but the trip was really enhanced but seeing how much fun he had. Maybe you can do a longer trip next time and drive up with Lucy.
I hate saying goodbye to my dog too!
