Heard of Elle Sasson yet? With a penchant for beachy, tropical prints, this new-ish (she’s only been showing her label since Spring ’14) designer has become a fast favorite of mine. This blue dress I picked up at Canary is my first piece from the designer and I’m totally smitten. Not only do I love the shape (fitted and flirty), but the abstract print is what really caught my eye. After doing a little research on Sasson, I found out that her resort collection was inspired by David Hockney’s Portrait of an Artist, 1972. With the mix of blues reminiscient of the pool (there’s a reason she named it the “Flounder” dress), you can absolutely see that inspiration in this dress – and I love that. I’m always interested to know just a little more behind my favorite pieces. It often explains part of the reason I love them so much. This one is no exception.
Since I love this print oh-so-much, I’m thinking about picking it up in this skirt, too. It’s pretty fantastic in orange, no? If you’re into the tropical vibe, take a peek at this top (on sale!) and this dress. And since denim is all over the place this season, I’m taking the plunge and buying this embroidered dress. Paired with my new sandals, it will be an easy-peasy summer piece.
