While I’m all about investing in the classics (see: here and here) when it comes to handbags, it’s also important to have a few options that are just for fun. I’m talking about the bags that are more about form than function. These are the conversation-starter bags. They’re the ones with interesting details (hello, pearls!) or unique shapes that make a statement all on their own. Is it going to be a bag that holds everything and that you carry every single day? No. But you love it anyway and that’s what matters.
The key with these types of statement bags is not to save them for special occasions only. In fact, I find that they’re at their best when carried with a super simple look. I reach for these bags whenever my outfit needs that last little oomph – whether that’s jeans and a t-shirt or a simple cocktail dress like this polka-dot one I’m currently eyeing. I keep seeing so many good ones lately. For starters, there’s the entire collection from Vanina. I also cannot resist Cult Gaia’s light pink croc mini or this feather handbag from Loeffler Randall. Sophia Webster’s acrylic bags are also definitely worth a look. The ladylike shape is so classic, but the unique material really freshens it up.
