I’ve owned and loved lots of different shapes of bags – totes, satchels, crossbodys, clutches… But never a bucket bag. Not one. I’ve never considered myself a “bucket-bag person” (if there is such a thing). I’m not sure why that is. It’s a truly classic style but just never one I’ve gravitated towards. Until now. The bucket bags from Mansur Gavriel have me smitten. I’m totally late to the game on this one, too. It seems plenty of others (editors, models, street style stars…) recognized the bag’s greatness long ago. It wasn’t until I received one of the brand’s totes for Christmas (thanks, Santa!) and absolutely fell in love with the refined and classic details of the design that I became intrigued by their other offerings – cue the bucket bag. The token of this brand is in its utter simplicity. There’s no hardware, zippers, bows, or flashy labels. They’re just beautiful bags made of quality leather (even the interiors, painted in stunning pops of color, are gorgeous!) that you’ll love just as much in ten years as you do now.

That’s exactly what’s making me fall in love with their bucket bag style. It’s a bag that will stand the test of time. Even though I’m seeing them everywhere, they’re so simple and elegant that I don’t feel like they’re trendy or that it’s a purchase I’ll regret in a year. So, now that I’ve decided that I love them, the only question left is which color to get. A peek at their Instagram tells me they’re cookin’ up some new materials – canvas and textured leather – for spring. I certainly wouldn’t mind one of those but I think if I’m going to do it then I’ll go for one of the buttery leathers – maybe a blush pink or black? They’ve also got a white version with a royal blue interior on the way for summer that looks divine. Thoughts?

(For more on Mansur Gavriel, check out this great BoF article that compares its waiting lists to that of Birkins and calls the bags first “post-recession ‘It Bag’.”)
