The weather in Texas during this time of year can present quite the dressing conundrum. The breezy mornings trick me into thinking I’m in for a chilly day only to discover when I head out for lunch that the temperature has risen to 85 degrees. Did I mention it’s November? That’s just how Texas is and I’ve come to take the weather as one of our state’s many surprises. But, like I said, getting dressed when you don’t know exactly what you’re in for can be tricky.
I’ve learned that the real key during this transitional season is to rely on basics and pieces that make for easy layering: long-sleeve tees, skinny denim, lightweight cashmere sweaters (I’m obsessed with this one)… When it comes to a jacket, there’s really only one that comes to mind: leather. Whether you prefer moto-style or streamlined and simple, it’s a must-have for a girl’s wardrobe. It’s one of those pieces that really marries form and function, and they only get better with time. Not only are they great-looking jackets (hello.), but they’re easily one of the most practical items in a closet. I wear mine with everything from jeans to cocktail dresses. (I’ve even been known to don this black one from Nordstrom over a black-tie gown on occasion). It’s definitely an item that warrants the purchase of at least two colors: black and tan. I also love the idea of one in an off-beat neutral like olive green or navy blue.
While I do think a leather jacket is something that’s worth the investment seeing as it will give you a lifetime of wear, there are plenty of options that don’t require a huge splurge. Something like this one gives you the moto-jacket look without the price tag, or for a little extra, this one would be a good choice. No matter your style or budget, there’s a perfect jacket out there. I’ve put together some of my favorites here. Scroll through below to shop.
