LATELY

Monogrammed iPhone Case // Luella & June

TDE iPhone Case

I’m not sure I’ve ever received quite as many messages as I did after I posted a photo of my iPhone case. Apparently you all love it as much as I do. For those that don’t already know, it’s from The Daily Edited, a site that was made in monogram heaven. Every single item in the leather goods line is able to be personalized. There’s all kinds of options, too. Besides a range of leather colors from which to choose, they also offer several different monogram styles, including their newest feature, “shadow text,” which is what gives the initials (or name, phrase, whatever you want!) a hand-painted effect. This place is a death zone for me. In addition to my iPhone case, I also have a notebook on the way and a card case, too – not to mention, the numerous gifts I’ve ordered for friends. I just can’t stop. I want it all.

Who else let out a little scream when they heard that Big Little Lies was coming back for a second season? So. Excited. But nervous, too. I’m thrilled at the thought of getting to dive into another season of Reese, Nicole, and the rest of the fab female-led cast. At the same time, however, I’m also apprehensive because this is essentially a sequel and, well, we all know that those can only go one of two ways: very good or very, very bad. I’m hoping it’s the former. The show (and the book, too) ended on such a high note and I’d like for it to stay that way.

When it comes to any design-related thing (art, shoes, whatever), I always like to hear about the inspiration behind the piece. I so love a good story and it always makes me appreciate whatever the item is in a whole different way. This is especially true when it comes to jewelry. Jewelry is personal and that makes the story all the more important. That’s what drew me right into Alighieri. The jewelry line is designed by London-based Rosh Mahtani, who was inspired to start the line after studying the Dante’s “Divine Comedy” at Oxford University. As someone who loves literature, this is a story that really spoke to me. There are references to the Italian poem throughout the entire collection, including the “Il Leone” necklace that I’ve been wearing around my neck every single day.

My obsession with podcasts continues to grow. Thanks to a recommendation from my husband, I just added a new one to my list of favorites: What It Takes. From the American Academy of Achievement, each episode is essentially an intimate conversation with a different industry leader or visionary. It’s quite a roster, too – from Sally Field (love her!) to Colin Powell. The way the interview is set up, it feels like you’re listening to someone tell a really good story. Each episode is more inspiring than the next and offers such great insight. I always feel extra motivated after listening to one.

How cliché is it to decide you want to chop off your hair in the first week of January? Well, that’s exactly what I did. I sat down in my stylist’s chair last Friday for my usual “tiny trim” and told her to chop it off. My hair has been long since my senior year of high school. That’s 13 years. It was time. My stylist cut off six inches (!) which left me with a long-ish bob. (I used photos of Margot Robbie’s cut for inspiration.) I love it. It feels healthier than it has in a long time. Talk about a fresh start to the new year!

The other day I noticed a couple of holes in my bath robe. Initially, I was annoyed but then it occurred to me that I’ve had the same bath robe since the beginning of college. Freshman year! A little wear and tear is more than expected at this point. Bottom line: I’m due for a new robe and have embarked on a hunt for just the right one. (I’ve found that bath robes are kind of like bras in that everyone has a different idea of the perfect one and when they find it, they hang on to it for dear life. Am I right?) I’m really impressed by how many beautiful robes are out there. Until now, it’s a category I’ve totally neglected. I’m smitten with the silk offerings from Olivia von Halle (love this one) but in the end, I think I’ve decided to go with something more simple from Skin. I’m newly obsessed with their pajamas (this nightgown is my current favorite) and have a feeling their robes are bound to be just as fab.

And, now, to end on a nugget of wisdom: kindness. That about sums it up, doesn’t it?
