CUSHNIE ET OCHS Coat (sold out. similar here, here, and here) // THE GREAT Jeans // GOLDEN GOOSE Sneakers
THE LEOPARD COAT… I have gotten lots of questions about this coat. I have answers. It’s Cushnie et Ochs and, unfortunately, it’s sold out. I did, however, do a quick peek around the web and found several similar options here and here.
SIMPLIFYING MY LIFE… I loved Geri’s list of things she’s done to simplify her life. It’s a great reminder that even the smallest changes can have a big impact. Reading it has inspired me to think of the ways I can simplify my own life. Can anyone relate? I would love to hear your own tips and tricks.
$30 THRILL… The other day, a friend gave me one of the coolest gifts: Le Labo’s Discovery Set. Why have I never thought about gifting these before? The little box comes with five travel-size vials of the brand’s most popular fragrances – including cult-favorite Santal 33. It’s a little luxury that comes with a $30 price tag. In other words: a perfect gift. Of course, you could also just treat yourself to one. Not only is the set ideal for traveling, but it’s also an excellent way to test out different scents before committing to whole bottle.
THE DEFINED DISH… These days, there’s no shortage of websites, blogs, etc. that offer healthy recipes. Everyone has their favorite and today, I’m sharing one of mine: The Defined Dish. Heard of it? It’s my go-to spot when I’m stumped for what to cook. The recipes are straightforward, easy to follow and incredibly healthy. Best part? They’re delicious, too. Every single thing I’ve made has been scrumptious. If you’re doing the Whole30 thing, this blog really is your best friend. There’s an entire section dedicated to Whole30-approved dishes.
SMALL CHANGES… You may (or may not) have noticed that Luella & June got a little refresh earlier this month. Nothing major, just a few tweaks here and there. One of my favorite additions is The Edit. Each month, I’ll update it with my current favorites – the books I’m reading, the beauty products I’m using, and a brand new (!) Top 9 section. It’s basically a one-stop shop! Check it out and tell me what you think.
THE MOST COMFORTABLE SANDALS EVER… I know I briefly mentioned these in a post last week but they’re so good that I’m giving them a second (and probably a third and fourth) shout-out. The “Burkina” (don’t you love the name?!) slides from Brothers Vellies are officially the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever put on my feet. Thanks to a combination of super-soft leather and a rubber sole, these sandals feel more like house slippers – albeit with a much cuter bow. The only thing that could make these sandals even better? The fact that they’re handmade from sustainable materials by local artisans in Ethiopia. Chic, comfortable and ethical. It kind of makes me feel a little less guilty about the fact that I just clicked “purchase” on another pair.
THE WORRY SPIRAL… This scenario is one with which I’m very familiar. Thanks to anxiety and a very Type-A personality, worrying is pretty much a 24-7 activity for me. Once I start, it can be hard to stop. It’s like my mind goes from 0-to-60 in a matter of minutes. The worst is when these spirals happen at night. I end up feeling exhausted from the worrying itself and from the lack of sleep. Can anyone relate? Any tips and tricks? Please share.
CURRENTLY PACKING FOR… Santa Barbara, here I come! I’m headed out on Friday and I can hardly wait. I’m so excited, in fact, that I’ve already started packing – which, if you know me, is kind of major because I hate packing and usually wait until the very last second to do it. I’m keeping it simple and taking an assortment of easy basics: a couple pairs of jeans (one blue, one black), my favorite silk button-down, and a cashmere sweater or two. And even though the forecast is showing rain, I’m still throwing in my new swimsuit and this Natalie Martin coverup – just in case!
B- I’m loving the small changes to the blog and The Edit! Also, so jealous of your upcoming trip to Santa Barbara. I’ve traveled a lot, and it still remains one of my favorite places in the world. Enjoy!
Thanks, Rebecca! AGREED about Santa B. It really is one of the most beautiful places in the whole world!
I’m excited about the changes to The Edit! It’s helpful to have shopping guides consolidated here…I was looking for statement earrings the other day and it would be cool to be able to shop by category for things you’ve posted in all different types of posts (for example a place I could see all the shoes you’ve posted, all the dresses, etc).
Also, there’s a perfume brand I discovered for my wedding called Commodity. It’s designed to be mixed and layered (I’m wearing Rain and Wool) and they sell a sample kit for like $26 at Sephora 🙂 Definitely a fun gift…you could even include a gift card to buy a full size of their favorite!
Hi Ellie! Thank you so much for this feedback on the blog! It’s so helpful. And thanks for the tip on Commodity. I can’t wait to check it out.
Rooms and Gardens is having their first ever warehouse sale this weekend in Santa Barbara–I’d be there for sure if we weren’t skiing this weekend!
Nancy! Great tip. Thanks so much for letting me know.
yes sleep anxiety…..its the worst….right before bed….meditation for ten minutes and super hot shower…..and melatonin…..anxiety is my diet these days…it’s awful-feel ya! wish more people spoke about the struggle-it’s real….
Glad to know I’m not the only one!
Love this post! Simplifying my life is the motto for my 2017. I went on a shopping fast for the month of January and it was amazing (I realize probably not feasible for a blogger, but it was just the restart I needed for the new year.) I consolidated and paid off some debt and have a new approach to shopping/spending that I hope lasts all year. I am decluttering and simplifying every area of my life and it is the best feeling. I am also reading “Chasing Slow” and recommend it if you haven’t read it yet.
ugh I am a constant worrier. I have had 2 panic attacks 2 nights in a row right at bed time….I am so stressed with working full time, 2 young kids, and building a new house. I wish I had a tried and true answer, but am currently on 1-3 medications depending how the day is going,..and even then they don’t solve the problem immediately.
