As much as I love (so. much.) our annual trip to Harbour Island, there’s something nice about it being over. It just feels nice to be home. It means the holiday hustle-and-bustle has ended and after a week-long respite at the beach (where I lived in nothing but this caftan and these sandals), I’m coming home refreshed and ready to take on a new year.
While I’m not one for year-long resolutions, I do like to make monthly goals. This month’s are quite simple. First, I’d really like to read more actual books – as in not from my iPad. I brought along the hardcover version of this book on vacation, and I so enjoyed the feeling of turning the pages. I think it’s a great opportunity to step away from technology, and it might actually help me sleep better since staring at an iPad screen probably isn’t the best thing when you’re trying to catch some Zs. Second, I’m going to make more of an effort to try new things. I’m a creature of habit and love a routine. While this is mostly a good quality, it also means I’m not trying anything new. Rather than just talking about that fun cooking class I’m going to take with my husband, I’m actually going to follow through on it, and instead of immediately saying no to a spur-of-the-moment opportunity that pops up, I’m going to say yes. I need to break out of my comfort zone. Happy 2016!
