It’s official: spring is here. While I enjoyed the cozy sweaters, big bowls of chili, and rounds of hot toddies, I’m not sad to see winter go. I’m a warm-weather girl at heart and I’m more than ready for spring. There are so many things I love about this season. Here, a few things I’m looking forward to:
1. Pink Peonies
I’ve already seen them popping up at flower shops around town. They’re my favorite flower (see: my wedding) and nothing makes me happier than seeing the pretty pink blooms in these vases around our house.
2. Outdoor Dinners
Texas summers can be unbearably hot so it’s important to take full advantage of this time when the temperatures are actually a pleasant 80 degrees. I do so by planning al fresco dinners as often as possible. I pull out my favorite outdoor tableware (do yourself a favor and get some of these), make a pitcher of margaritas, and cook something simple and fresh like pesto spaghetti or a healthy chicken paillard.
If you’re calendar looks anything like mine then your Saturdays for the next couple of months are booked with one of two things: wedding showers or weddings (or sometimes, one of each in the same day). While the wedding circuit can get a little tiresome, I kind of love it anyway. The ceremonies are so sweet and who doesn’t love a good dance floor (most comfortable heels ever) and a piece of wedding cake? Plus it gives me an excuse to wear my new pink dress.
4. Light Layers
I love my big, cozy sweaters but I can only handle the heaviness of winter for so long. I’m so ready to shed all those layers for lighter things like this dress, gauzy tunics, and of course, lots of off-the-shoulder tops.
5. My Birthday and Our Anniversary
May is a big month for us. My birthday is May 10th and then eight days later, it’s our wedding anniversary. It’s become an annual tradition for my husband and me to take a big celebration trip and this year we’re headed to Cabo.
6. Snow Cones
There is a snow cone stand less than a mile from our house that is only open when the weather is warm (or really just whenever the owner feels like it). The snow cones are delicious (Tiger’s Blood!) and the fact that we can walk up there makes it all the more fun.
