While flipping through the most recent issue of Martha Stewart Weddings (my wedding plans are complete, but I still can’t resist a good wedding mag), I came across this amazingly colorful heraldry design. A bride had customized it with her initials to use on her invitations and wedding favors, amongst other things. (How cool is that for a wedding? It feels fun and whimsical, yet still so classic.) You know I can’t resist a bright color combo, and this one was right up my alley. I immediately did some research and found the artist to be Happy Menocal. Apparently, I’m the last one to know about her because after a quick Google search of her name, I found her to be everywhere. Jonathan Adler sells her illustrations online, and remember the palm tree illustration on my favorite pink Stubbs & Wooten slippers? Yep. She designed that, too! (I’ve been a fan of Happy’s illustrations and I didn’t even know it!) The artist has some brilliant illustrations on her site. She’s got illustrations of people, animals, (the pet portraits are so good), places, you name it. My favorite is definitely her custom heraldry though. It’s such a unique take on the classic crest that we see so often. Take a look through her portfolio. I think you’ll like what you see.
