It’s time! Your first – of many! – gift guides for the holiday season is here. I’m kicking it off with the one that seems most timely – what to buy for your hosts and hostesses. While flowers, candles (this mini Diptyque one smells so divine!) and wine are all lovely and much-appreciated, I always try to think just a little bit outside of the box with these gifts. Here, a few tips and tricks to get your started.

Since I already know that he or she loves to entertain, a gift in that realm is sure to please – think cocktail napkins (love these and these) or this set of marble cheese knives. I also love this striped serving board. It’s black and white so it will work with her other serving pieces and is the just the thing for displaying cheese and other little bites. Books also work here. Prêt-À-Party by Lela Rose is always a hit for someone who loves to entertain. If tending bar is more their thing, I usually opt for a cocktail book. I love, love this one.

Another easy trick for making a simple gift seems extra special? Personalize it. If you think ahead, you can easily get a set of embroidered linens or one of these acrylic trays customized either with their initials or even a funny phrase. I also love hitting up this Etsy shop for custom swizzle sticks and monogrammed matches.

One last little tidbit for you: when in doubt, go with cookies. Cookies (especially these) will always thrill even the hostess with the mostess – not to mention, they’ll ensure your invitation to next year’s holiday fête!
