There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to start fresh with my lingerie. While I’m fairly good about keeping everything else in my wardrobe updated, my bras and other underthings always seem to take the last priority. (Full disclosure: I had been using the same strapless bra from high school until I finally broke down and bought a new one at the end of last year.) It makes no sense, really. These are things that get the most wear (every single day, people!), but the least love. It’s about time I made a few updates.
When it comes to the basics, there are a few underpinnings that I can’t live without. For everyday, I’m totally loyal to this bra from Natori. It’s one of the only bras I’ve found that fits me perfectly. (Funny fact: Sally is actually the one who introduced me to it.) I have all the neutral colors (black, white, beige…) and because I’m one of those people who loves a set, I have the matching undies, too. For summer, I’m going to update my collection with a few of the color options. The hot coral and gunmetal gray are my favorites. Another must-have: a t-shirt bra. The Natori bra has some lace on it so it’s not totally seamless if I’m wearing my fitted white t-shirt. For those days, I opt for this bra. It’s virtually invisible underneath my tees – not to mention, totally comfortable.
Here’s an important lesson I’ve learned: not all bras are created equal – especially when it comes to a strapless bra. It takes a little more work to find the right strapless bra. In my case, I alternate between this one (it’s so comfortable and it comes with straps so you can wear it a million different ways, if you’d like) and this one when I’m looking for something with a little more lace. (FYI: When washing my lingerie, I swear by these bags. Washing machines can be rough on intimates and this bag keeps everything protected – which means they’ll last a lot longer!)
Once the basics are covered, investing in some fun and frilly pieces is a necessity. For those things, I go straight for Chantelle and Eberjey. They have some of the most beautiful things (obsessed with this set). I also love Eberjey’s loungewear. The summer heat doesn’t allow for much under the covers (check out Nordstrom’s”Lightweight Sleepwear” section) and Eberjey’s chemise has become a fast favorite.
