I love the look of layering a printed button-down or a striped shirt underneath a simple tee. It gives the look some dimension and keeps that tee from looking boring. However, I hate when the layers get so bunched up and you can see all of the ripples and bumps underneath the t-shirt. I know that you all know exactly what I’m talking about. (How J.Crew manages to master the layered look sans bumps is a total mystery to me.) When my friend Molly showed me this top, I knew it would solve those problems. The plaid shirt is simply sown along the bottom, so you get the layered look without actually having to layer (it’s sneaky like that). I can wear it underneath my black blazer or a fitted jacket without feeling like I’m wearing 12 shirts. (Not to mention, it’s one of the softest tees I own, and, at $86, it’s a budget-friendly.) Nearly all of Clu’s tops are two-in-ones like that. This striped one (I love that ruffle!) is next on my list, and I wouldn’t mind one of the sweatshirts either.
