In my opinion, there are two kinds of vacations: the ones where you do everything and the ones where do you nothing at all. Both are equally important and equally productive. Last week’s vacation was in the nothing-at-all category, and it was productive because it was exactly what my body needed. I did two things I haven’t done in a very (very) long time: I slept in and I did not turn on my laptop. In fact, I didn’t bring my laptop at all. (#bestdecisionever) Instead, I read two books (this one and this one), did crossword puzzles, played hours of Rummikub, dressed up (this beach buy was a hit) for delicious dinners (including one at new-to-me favorite restaurant called Acre), and drank one too many margaritas. It was pure bliss. I can’t tell you the last time I felt this rested. It’s kind of a magical feeling. It was such a good reminder how important that kind of rest is to a person’s well-being. It’s also made me realize that I don’t have to wait until a vacation to get that kind of rest. Surely there’s a way to incorporate it into real life – which is exactly what I’m going to try to do. That’s my goal for the new year. What’s yours?
