6 SKINCARE PRODUCTS I’M CURRENTLY USING – AND LOVING

L to R: Biologique Recherche Masque Visolastine // Grown Alchemist Body Treatment Oil // Vintner’s Daughter Serum // Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum // Dr. Barbara Sturm Calming Serum // Dr. Barbara Sturm Scrub

There’s nothing like a birthday to remind you just how old you really are and how important self-care is. The additional candle on my birthday cake earlier this month has me really focusing in my own self-care habits. There’s plenty of tweaks I need to make (more sleep, less sugar, and definitely a lot less coffee, to name a few) but one area that I do feel pretty good about is my skincare. I’ve always been fairly disciplined about taking care of my skin. It’s just a regular part of my routine. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that good skincare doesn’t necessarily require a lot of products. However, it does require is consistency. This means wearing sunscreen every single day and having patience with everything else. You have to give products time to work (read: there is no product out there that offers an overnight makeover) before giving up and moving along to the next best thing. It’s not magic.

With that in mind, here are six products – some are old favorites, some are newer additions – that are currently a part of my regular skincare routine.

1. Biologique Recherche Masque Visolastine

I’m a big believer in face masks. The right ones can make a major difference. I have so many favorites (this one and this one included), but the Visolastine from Biologique is one I use the most regularly. I apply it several times a week or whenever my skin feels extra dry. I leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. It’s super-hydrating and gives my skin big moisturizing boost. I love using it before and after traveling.

2. Grown Alchemist Body Treatment Oil

I’m a huge fan of all skin oils – both for my face and body. This one from Grown Alchemist is a new favorite. It’s hydrating and makes my skin feel so soft. I apply it post-shower by mixing it with my body lotion. You don’t need a lot. A little goes a long way with this oil. It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin with a touch of glow.

3. Vintner’s Daughter Serum

I’m pretty sure I’ve post about this serum at least six of seven times. But that’s how great this stuff is. It really has made a huge difference in my skin’s overall texture and tone. I apply 5-8 drops morning and night, that’s it. I didn’t see a dramatic change overnight, but after several weeks of consistent use, I definitely started to notice a difference.  My skin is brighter and all-around more even. Not to mention, I just love the way it feels on my face. It’s pricey, yes, but worth every penny.

4. Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum

This serum has a different texture than any other serum I’ve used before. It’s slightly thicker and therefore takes a bit longer for the skin to absorb. With that said, it’s amazing. It’s a miracle worker for dry skin. I apply two or three drops after my toner. (Sometimes I actually mix it with the Calming Serum.) My skin drinks this stuff up. It’s not inexpensive but the good news is that you really don’t need more than a couple of drops at a time. One bottle will last quite awhile. It’s a must-have for frequent travelers!

5. Dr. Barbara Sturm Calming Serum

I suffer from a very annoying case of rosacea. Changes in temperature, wine, sun exposure, spicy foods – all of the above can cause my skin to flare up. I’ve tried a number of different products – both OTC and dermatologist-prescribed – and here’s the truth: nothing has cured it. The rosacea is still very much there. However, I have found several products that do lessen the severity of it and this serum is one of them. It reduces the redness and overall leaves my skin looking more balanced and even. I apply it morning and night before my Vintner’s Daughter. I also keep it in my carry-on on the plane as it really helps with any skin flare I might have due to traveling.

6. Dr. Barbara Sturm Scrub

I love a good scrub. I always have. The problem is that a scrub isn’t exactly the best idea for someone who suffers from rosacea. Most of the scrubs I’ve tried have only aggravated my skin, leaving my face red and uneven. But not this one. I can use this scrub (usually once per week) without worrying about an adverse reaction. It’s gentle, but very effective. It has a gritty texture (love that) that exfoliates, leaving my skin extra bright and very smooth. It’s a great scrub to use the night before a big event.
