I love a good beauty buy from the drugstore (this and this, people!) as much any girl. But then there are some products that are just worth the splurge. Here, 3 new-to-me skincare products that are worth every pretty penny.
I was having dinner with a friend a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned how excited I was to try out a couple of Goop’s new skincare products. Her response: “Really? Gwyneth Paltrow? I just don’t trust her skincare stuff.” Something tells me she’s not the only with doubts about the legitimacy of Goop skincare. While I can’t speak for the entire line of products, I can tell you about two that I really, really love.
The first is the Luminous Melting Cleanser. Here’s my opinion on cleansers: if your skin feels dry and almost too squeaky clean after washing your face then you might want to think about switching up your cleanser. Until the end of last year, I was using cleansers that were completely wrong for me. They were cleaning my skin, yes, but stripping away all of the healthy moisture in the process. That’s when I decided to switch to something more gentle. I told you all about my love affair with Tatcha’s Camelia Oil. It’s so good. Truly. But, after hearing that Goop’s cleanser was fairly similar to Tatcha’s (albeit in a non-oil way), I decided to give it a try. The verdict? Good. Very good. Like Tatcha’s oil, it’s super gentle and very effective for removing makeup. My skin feels clean and not at all dry and itchy after using it. The only real difference from the Tatcha oil is that this one is a balm. It’s solid in the jar, but melts as soon as your rub it between your fingers. I’d say it’s a tie between the Tatcha oil and Goop balm. It really depends on personal preference.
And then there’s the Exfoliating Instant Facial – aka a fast-and-furious mask that makes you look like you just got the best facial ever. This one is a clear winner. I might even go so far as to say it’s one of the best masks I’ve ever used. Why? It’s quick, effective, and the results are immediate. You apply a thin layer all over your face, leave it for three minutes (Note: Heed the three-minute rule. This stuff is active. You will feel the tingle!), and rinse. Your skin might be slightly pinkish-red initially, but give it about 30 seconds and that’s when you’ll see it: the GLOW. My skin just looks brighter and better after using this mask. It’s a great one to use the night before a big party.
The fact that this bottle is so tiny makes shelling out $185 a little (ok. a lot.) hard to swallow. With a price like that, it kind of needs to be a miracle-worker. Well, it is. I’ve been using this serum for over four months and I can honestly say that it has changed my skin for the better. Not only is my skin calmer (read: redness has lessened), but it’s also noticeably smoother and more even. Bonus: the serum is 100% organic and smells amazing. The good news is that a little (four to five drops) goes a long way with this stuff so that tiny little bottle should last you a long time. There’s a great story behind the brand, too. Read a lot about it here.
