Fun fact: I was born on Mother’s Day. I have a very close relationship with my mom so I’ve always loved that I was born on a day dedicated to celebrating her. And if there’s one thing that she and all mothers most definitely deserve, it’s a day in their honor.
What makes a great Mother’s Day gift is totally dependent on the person. Is she someone who loves to cook at home? A beautiful apron along with a wonderful cookbook might do the trick. Or maybe she’s someone who loves to entertain? In that case, consider a set of Jan Barboglio’s newest blue shot glasses (tequila, anyone?) or a fresh set of embroidered linens. I’ve also found a lot of great (and budget-friendly!) things in the new Aerin collection at Williams-Sonoma. Something like this (buy a set!) or these would be so perfect for a summer tablescape. Or you could go a different direction and surprise her with a new handbag. Mansur Gavriel gets my vote here. Their bags are classics that would thrill just about anyone. I especially love this tote and this crossbody bag.
The gifts I’ve given my mom in the past have been all over the place. (Well, except for the foodie category. My mom is not a chef. Not at all.) They’ve ranged from jewelry to a vintage handbag to pajamas to a spa trip. Last year, I surprised her with this fabulous suitcase from Paravel. My mom is a frequent flier so this bag was a total hit. This year, well, I’m still working on it. One thing I know for sure is that Claiborne Swanson Frank’s newest tome will be a part of it. It’s such a gem!
Bottom line: Mother’s Day gifts require some thought. The good news is that I’ve done the thinking for you. In addition to the favorites I included above, I’ve also rounded up a heap of other gifts – from over-the-top splurges to the best buys under $50 – that are sure to thrill every type of mom on the list.
