THE WEEKEND DUFFEL BAG

giselle

TGIF. Don’t you love summer Fridays? Everybody seems to start checking out around noon which means weekends start earlier than usual. I’m headed out of town today for a weekend trip to a friend’s lake house. While packing for our three-day getaway, it occurred to me that I need a good weekend duffel. Summer weekends are filled with two- and three-day trips that just don’t require the usual heavy-duty luggage. If I’m traveling somewhere by plane then my Rimowa comes with me. It’s the absolute best. It’s the perfect size for quick trips (you’d be pleasantly surprised how much you can squeeze in there), the exterior is basically indestructible so it never scratches, and it slides right into the luggage bin so you’ll never need to check it. It’s worth every penny, trust me. However, for road trips and more casual affairs like this weekend’s, I much prefer a duffel bag. It’s a little less bulky (although the Rimowa is incredibly lightweight) and it’s easier to just it in throw in the car and go.

One of my favorites for summer is the L.L. Bean Boat and Tote. The extra-large size is ideal, and the $39 price tag simply can’t be beat. If I’m looking for something with a zipper and perhaps something a little fancier, Sole Society’s “Cassidy” bag is fantastic. The cognac leather (faux, by the way) is beautiful and I love that you have the option of a shoulder strap. Another pro? It’s a steal at $70. These are bags you’ll most likely carry forever so it’s not a bad idea to make an investment in one that will really last. Coach has a great option that has interior compartments so your bag won’t just turn into a black hole of stuff. You also can’t go wrong with Clare Vivier’s. She’s got so many good color choices and you can add a monogram!

I did a little more perusing and came up with a quick list of weekend duffels – in all different styles and prices – that would suit any summer getaway just fine.
