TECHNICOLOR DREAM COATS

The September issues have arrived. In fact, there’s currently a stack (no lie: it’s about a foot tall) in the middle of my couch just waiting for me to dive in. While I haven’t had time to make a dent in those just yet, I did finally have a chance to go through the latest issue of WSJ magazine. (Have I told you all how much I enjoy this magazine? The WSJ is one of my favorite papers, and my Saturday morning is never complete without a full-on read of the Off Duty section. However, it’s the magazine that I look forward to the most. I think Kristina O’Neill has done such an amazing job as editor.) While there was plenty to love about this issue, a particular story that left my heart beating a little faster was the Technicolor Dream Coats. Shot by Driu & Tiago and styled by Zara Zachrisson, it was one dreamy spread after another of fall’s best coats. I just love the simplicity of everything here. It really allowed the coats – and colors – to shine. Of course, now more than ever, I want a colorful coat in my closet.

Don’t get me wrong: everyone needs a coat in a basic color – camel, black, or gray. It’s the most functional and coats in these colors are ultimately the ones that get the most wear throughout the fall/winter season. With that said, options are always a good idea, and this season, I’m going to make sure that my other coat choices include at least one fantastic color. The only question is: which one?

I think a pastel could be really pretty. Pink, perhaps? I love the tailored look of this Nicholas one. There’s also this one from Joa – similar shape and a much better price tag. I even think this lavender one is pretty. There’s also pale blue. This one is out of this world. But again, you could also go for something a little more budget friendly like this one. If I decide to go the minty-fresh route, then there’s really only one option and it’s this Tibi one.

If pastels aren’t your thing, then I think it’s a go-big-or-go-home mentality. In other words: opt for something bold. A cobalt blue or a super rich teal.  You all know I’m normally not a red-wearer but I would totally make an exception for this. (It’s kind of more of an orangey-red, no?)

What do you think? Will you be investing in some colorful outerwear this season?
