As I mentioned last week, all of my outerwear suddenly seems very beige. Don’t get me wrong: I love a good beige (or gray or black) coat, and having a good one for fall/winter is important. But just like everything else in a closet, it’s always a good idea to throw in some brighter options (hello.) to balance out your tried-and-true basics. Not to mention, a colorful coat just looks fresh and will brighten up even the grayest winter day.
I feel like J.Crew has always been on the colored coat train. Am I wrong? Year after year, their coats return in a medley of new colors that are brighter and better than the season before. This coat looks pretty amazing in the bright fuchsia hue, doesn’t it? The reason J.Crew always gets it right here is because they keep their coats super classic. It’s a simple silhouette with a splash of color. (This one from Topshop is a good example of that, too.) Speaking of classics, I’m really feeling the toggle coats right now. A camel one is great, but a red one is even better. Even a utilitarian coat like this looks better in an eye-popping blue.
A bright coat doesn’t have to break that bank either. There’s plenty of options there that are budget-friendly. I love this $115 cobalt one from ASOS, and Piperlime has this hot pink one that gives you a shot of color for under $50.
