Must Watch: Bill Cunningham New York

My ideal Sunday morning begins with a cup of coffee and the New York Times Style Section, namely Bill Cunningham’s photographs. (I must give due credit here to my mother who introduced me to his work when I was just a little girl.) Bill Cunningham has been trolling the streets (on his bike no less) of New York City and attending high-society soirées for nearly 50 years snapping pictures and documenting fashion trends for his “On the Street” and “Evening Hours” columns. He’s the original street style photographer – he even still shoots with film and has his pictures developed at a one-hour photo! Having your picture taken by Bill is like hitting the fashion jackpot – or as Anna Wintour says, “We all get dressed for Bill.” His photographs really are a sartorial weekend treat for me, and now comes the greatest treat of all: next month, Bill Cunningham New York, a documentary by Richard Press that chronicles the 81-year-old’s legendary career, will hit theaters. The 88-minute film will only be released in 18 states (Dallas, Texas is one of the lucky spots!), so check here for locations and dates. This is one fashion film you won’t want to miss!
