While we’ve got a couple of longer trips (Italy in July!) planned, most of summer’s travel consists of quick, weekend getaways. These are the kinds of trips that require efficient packing, a skill at which I’m slowly – but surely! – getting better. Packing lightly isn’t something that comes naturally to me (I like options?) but it certainly makes traveling easier so I’m finding ways to make my bag as carry-on-friendly as possible.
First things first: my Rimowa suitcase. I swear by this luggage. I honestly can’t remember how I ever traveled without it. The hard case keeps all my stuff protected, yet it’s still incredibly light, and the four wheels makes rolling it around the airport so much easier. I should also mention that it magically stretches. You’d be amazed at what I’ve managed to squeeze inside this suitcase. Next up: my beauty bag. Forget the full-sized products. It’s all about multi-tasking products and TSA-friendly sizes. It’s a way to save space (thus allowing room for that third pair of sandals) without sacrificing any beauty must-haves.
FACE: I’m addicted to this face mist when traveling. It moisturizes my skin and feels so refreshing. It’s an airplane must. I also never leave home without my SPF. Lucky for me, my all-time favorite facial sunscreen is totally TSA-approved. In terms of cleansing and moisturizing, I’ve become quite fond of this Eve Lom set. With a cleanser, mask, and the TLC Radiance cream (seriously good stuff), it covers all the essentials. I leave the eye cream at home and use my trusty Aquaphor instead. (I use these to remove my makeup – super gentle and really gets the job done.) If you’re really looking for a good multi-tasker, I’ve heard this stuff is amazing. It’s a cleanser, mask and makeup remover all in one. It was also said to be Jane Birkin’s moisturizer of choice. So there.
HAIR: I pack the bare essentials: Oribe’s Gold Lust shampoo, conditioner and beach wave spray. That is, only if I’m going to be there long enough to require a hair wash. Sometimes I just pack my dry shampoo and call it a day.
MAKEUP: I’ve got to have my Laura Mercier primer and tinted moisturizer. Not buts about it. After that, I rely on lots of multi-taskers (here’s a good one). Concealer is a must and this one works for under my eyes and to hide blemishes. For color, this Nars duo combines two of my favorites – Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush – in one travel-ready compact. My most recent discovery, though, is a real life-changer: Charlotte Tilbury’s Beach Stick. It’s a lip and cheek tint that gives my skin instant summer glow. It comes in four colors. The “Las Salinas” and “Moonbeach” are my two personal favorites. I throw in this mascara and a Chanel eyeshadow quad and I’m set.
Finally, where do I pack all of those beauty products? Only one bag will do: my Truffle clutch. If you don’t already own one, you should. (In fact, you should probably own more than one. I do.) These transparent clutches allow you to see everything so you’re not digging through your bags, and I think we can all agree that they’re so much better looking than a Ziplock. They come in two sizes – a TSA-friendly small and a large that will easily fit your wallet, phone, passport and whatever else you need.
