My makeup routine has always been a simple one. There are several reasons for this: one is that I’m really just not that good at applying it (I have not a clue how to “contour,” and my eyeliner is never quite straight.). Second, I’ve found that I look and feel a little more like myself when I’m not wearing tons of makeup, and, lastly, it’s a matter of time. I’m almost always in a rush out the door and I need a routine that’s quick and easy. This timing thing is never more important than the holidays. Anyone else feel like they’re in a constant run from place to place this month? With that said, it is the holidays so I want to have a little more shimmer and shine in there than usual. Here are the products that are currently fitting the bill:
YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick in “Lingerie Pink” and “Extreme Coral“: I’m like a moth to a flame when I see a new lipstick at a beauty counter (the new “La Favorite” from Chanel is amazing). Maybe it’s because I keep the rest of my makeup so simple so my lipstick is really the only place I go bold with color. The YSl hues are certainly not new but they’re ones I always come back to. The “Lingerie Pink” is a go-to when I want a super feminine, light pink lip (I love the way it looks with a winter white look.), while the”Extreme Coral” delivers the most amazing orangey-red color. What I love about the Volupté Shine lipsticks is that they go on so smoothly and deliver subtle color. It’s really more of a hybrid between a lipstick and a gloss.
Burberry Nude Glow in “Mocha”: I have absolutely no skills when it comes to eye makeup application. I never know what shadows to mix so I rely on palettes like this one to make it easy on me. It has a warm shimmer to it which is perfect for the holidays and contains my base shadow, two shadows for the crease and a liner. Done and done.
Armani Maestro Foundation: While I’m a big fan of Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer (it’s. the. best.) for my everyday makeup, sometimes I need something with just a little more coverage. I find this especially true during party season. For those instances, I use this Maestro foundation. I like it because it provides great coverage without feeling cakey or greasy. It’s actually surprising light – as in liquid-thin. You apply it with an eyedropper (I use two drops max) and at first you think it’s going to be oily but it just blends right into your skin. Magic.
