I told you all last week that I am a sucker for Valentine’s Day. I realize it’s a total Hallmark holiday but it’s one that I really love and so I celebrate as such. (I’m just dying to fill up a room with a whole bunch of these.) I think it’s really the little things that I enjoy about it the most: filling the bowls in our house with red and pink M&Ms (Have you all tried the dark chocolate peanut? Life changing.), decorating cupcakes, baking (or buyingconversation-heart cookies, and wrapping up little surprises for the ones I love. I’m not talking red roses (I’m not a fan of those) or your typical box of chocolates. I like to think a little more out of the box when it comes to valentine surprises for my girlfriends. The good news is that there’s no shortage of sweet options – for saving and splurging.

On the saving side of things, candy is always a good choice but, for a little more, I also love the idea of wrapping a little ribbon around a bottle of pink polish. There’s also this adorable set of matchboxes ($10!) that would be so cute paired with my favorite rose-scented votive. Another idea: these red cashmere ballet slippers are perfect (so comfortable!) and they just went on sale. Embroider it with a heart or initials for an extra-sweet touch. If you’re thinking jewelry, head to BaubleBar. I found the most adorable little gifts for the gals there. Take a peek at these initial earrings. How cute!

If you’re looking to splurge, how about this? Or a cashmere sweater would do the trick. If it’s jewelry you’re after, Jennifer Meyer’s “Jet’aime” bracelet is it.

wait there's more
