FIFTY SHADES OF GREY // RUNWAY TO ROOM

west elm

While I can rarely resist the temptation of a true pink or a kelly green, the majority of my closet is dominated by a palette of grey, white, and black. They’re the most classic trio and they go with everything which makes getting dressed that much easier. The exact same thing can be said about decorating a room in your house. I’ve always held that the way I dress myself is the exact same way I “dress” a room. In fact, when I’m feeling stumped on where to start with decor, fashion is often a place I look to for inspiration. This fall, it seems that designers share my feelings about the importance of a good neutral as the runways were filled with every shade of grey. Just a quick perusal of the Hermès and Ralph Lauren collections had me longing to add more grey to my fall wardrobe (preferably in the form of this and a pair of these, thank you) – and my house. That’s where West Elm comes in. When it comes to neutrals and great basics, they’re one of the best. Their new arrivals are an assortment of essentials that have been updated with interesting touches. My favorite example is this side table: classic grey top paired with a metallic base. The geometric base is kind of awesome, isn’t it? (Speaking of shape… this table is still one of my favorite purchases I’ve ever made from West Elm.) Other grey favorites include this throw (such a great price!) and this metallic pillow. And because every room needs a splash of color: how about a sunny yellow lamp? Yes, please.
