FALL FASHION 2009

September (the “January” of the fashion world) is quickly approaching and that can mean only one thing: fall fashion. For my debut post here on Luella & June, I am going to introduce the stand-out trends you’ll be seeing (and coveting) this fall. Check back for all of your fashion updates!

1. ’80s Revival
The trend leading the way for all other trends this season is undoubtedly the revamp of the ’80s. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, and Christophe Decarnin at Balmain took the key looks from the glorious decade – glitz, color, and pouf – and put them into their newest collections. Think: acid-washed jeans, one-shoulder dresses, and Ray-Bans (just don’t wear them all at once).

2. The New Boot
Julia Roberts made them famous in Pretty Woman: the thigh-high boot is a must-have this season. Wear them pulled over your skinny jeans or with your hottest mini.

3. Neons
Shocking pinks, greens and yellows: no longer are these colors exclusive to the spring season. Every designer from Marc Jacobs to Michael Kors featured these bright hues in their Fall collections. To get the bright look via accessories, check out Toywatch’s Plasteramic Collection (Toywatchusa.com). The brighter the better!

4. Leather Love
The fashion world is currently having a love affair with leather – and there is no better way to spread the love than with a fabulous pair of leather trousers. My favorites: The Row, Matthew Williamson, and Helmut Lang. Check out one of your favorite twins sporting this trend below!

5. Strong Shoulders
Another nod to the ’80s are the strong, raised shoulders we saw all over the Fall ’09 runways. These sculpted shoulders are a more a subtle and wearable version of the famous (or infamous) ’80s shoulder pads.

6. Shine-fest
Sequins are all the rage this season. The designers have given just about everything a sequin look – from minis to sweatshirts to the shoes on your feet. Your inspiration: Chic-Vegas.
