After what feels like a month-long binge on red wine, cookies, cheese, and other holiday treats, I desperately need a detox. Don’t get me wrong. Every last bite was well worth it. But I just need a fresh start. I need to get back in a routine. (I’m a creature of habit. I thrive on routines.) Ever since I returned home from Harbour Island, I’ve been trying to do just that – going back to my morning smoothies, eschewing the weeknight cocktails and trying to get back into my exercise routine.
Transitioning back into healthier foods isn’t that difficult, but returning to my workout routine, after taking so much time off, is a little harder. However, there are a few things that make doing so a whole lot easier: new workout clothes, fun friends, and a puppy. Last Saturday, I had all three. New gear? A bright blue half-zip jacket that I have found to be the most perfect laying piece and a pair of neon-accented running capris (that conveniently match my new running shoes to a T). Fun friends? My favorite sisters, Molly and Sally. The puppy? Blue Moonbeam, of course. (Check out #bluemoonbeam for more snaps of this precious little puppy.)
With a 68 degree temperature, it was pretty much the perfect day. The three of us spent our Saturday afternoon in the park, walking around and playing with Blue. It’s the perfect way to get my exercise in since spending time with Molly and Sally is one of my favorite things to do. And Blue? Just look at him! Who wouldn’t want to spend their whole day looking at that little face? Not to mention, there’s nothing quite like a puppy to get you moving. He’s a quick little guy and I found myself a little out of breath chasing him around the park. (Side note: I’ve got major puppy fever. I see one in our not too distant future.) It was such a fun afternoon. It was just what I needed to get me motivated and moving.
