Milan Fashion Week is always one of my favorites when it comes to the street style. Unlike London, Milan street style is always just a little bit funkier. The prints are bolder (and mix-and-matched to perfection), the colors are brighter, and there’s never a shortage of accessories. With so much of that going on, the denim-on-denim look actually felt quite refreshing. Next up: Paris!

It’s about that time. Fall is all about a perfect leather jacket. It’s a piece you’ll wear all season long – over and over again. It’s also something that will stand the test of time. I’ve had mine since college graduation (if you’re doing the math that was about 4.5 years ago), and it just continues to get better and better with more wear. This season (and every season, really) I’m loving the moto jacket. They’re so classic, but, with the zippers and extra stitching details, they have just a little bit more edge to them. They have a effortless-chic look to them – very model-off-duty (who do you think Marc Jacob’s was naming this “Karlie” jacket after?).They can definitely be a little pricey (if you’re looking for a deal on the real thing, check out The Outnet’s selection), but you can also score a great look-alike for a lot less.

j.crew sale alert Another SALE from J.Crew. This time they’re offering an extra 30% off all final sale items. The prices are already marked down, and, with an extra 30% off, there are some seriously good deals and steals. Enter the code SHOPNOW at checkout. There are plenty of goodies left, too. Here are my favorites:

  • I am obsessed with these. They’re the perfect fall shorts. I’ll wear them with a light sweater while we still have the warmer weather, but, as soon as things start to cool down, I’m going to wear them over tights.
  • I’ve retired my bright white jeans for the fall, but I have found the perfect substitute pair. I bought these last month (not on sale, unfortunately), and I have loved them. They’re an off-white color that totally works for fall.
  • It’s always a good idea to snatch up cashmere when it’s on sale. The boyfriend sweater is one of my very favorite styles – and it comes in a million colors, too!
  • Who doesn’t need another pair of pajamas? Especially ones with polka-dots.
  • This is such a cute little mini skirt. I adore the festive print. It has just enough sparkle to work as a party skirt during the holidays.

If there’s one thing I have more than enough of in my closet (besides stripe tees like this one, of course), it’s button-down shirts. I live in them. They’re my easiest and quickest go-to when I’m wanting to look put-together but don’t have the time to think out a look. They  instantly just polish off a look. For more casual days, I opt for oversized boyfriend shirts, but if I’m going just a touch more dressy, the tailored ones are a no-brainer. (I had this one monogrammed with my new initials. It’s a fun touch.) I wear the shirts with everything but denim is clearly the frontrunner. I just can’t think of anything more classic than an oxford shirt and a pair of skinny jeans. While I always love a dark rinse, lately I’ve been turning to my coated pair along with this carmel color, too. To add some visual interest, I usually grab a print accessory. This Clare Vivier clutch certainly fits the bill.

moreplaid plaids mira in plaid plaidshirt plaid plaid9 plaid7 plaid5 plaid6 plaid pants mixed plaids plaid plaid4 plaid3 plaid2 plaid1 Just like last week’s camo post, plaid is another one of those iffy prints for me. I definitely don’t have quite as strong of feeling as I did about camo, but it’s just a print that I have to warm up to a little bit. Plaid is nothing new to me. I’m actually quite well-versed in ways of plaid. I went to a school that required a uniform – plaid skirt, white oxford shirt, and saddle oxfords (you get the picture). That means I basically wore plaid every single day of my life (excluding summers) for twelve years.  Maybe that’s why it’s taking me some time to get back into it.

Don’t get me wrong. I own plenty of plaid shirts (this one and this one are my two favorites right now). Those are actually one of my must-have basics. I live in those. It’s the full-on plaid pants and skirts that I’m talking about. After seeing them pop up all over the streets of NYFW, I’m suddenly very interested in the checked print. What I really love about it is that it has multiple personalities. It can be super preppy (think boarding school looks), and then it can go the opposite direction and be totally punk. While I don’t think I’m quite savvy enough to do anything crazy like mix my plaids (if you’ve got the skills, go. for. it.), I think I could totally get into a shirt like this one paired with my leather mini. And I kind of love the look of these plaid trousers. I would pair it with a cozy gray sweater and my black pumps. Am I totally crazy that I think this sequin skirt is cool? Paired with a white button-down or a chambray? Maybe.

I’ve perused the internet for perfect plaids. Scroll through here and click it to shop it.

I’m lucky that I work in a creative office where pretty much anything goes when it comes to workwear. There are days when I show up in my skinny jeans and Converse sneakers (those are usually days that require early mornings and/or late nights), and then there are others when I feel like getting a little more dressed up. My job requires so much running around (pulling for shoots, meetings, castings) that I hardly ever wear heels to work. It’s usually ballet flats (I’m currently alternating between these and these) during the day, and then I keep a pair of heels in my bag to change into when I’m headed to cocktails after work.

Since my office is so flexible with the dress code, I can usually make one piece work several different ways. This blouse, for example, has become an instant favorite. The black-and-white print (It’s called “Tossed Hearts.” Love that.) allows for easy mixing and matching. I’ve worn it with my leather pants, jeans, and even printed pants. The same goes for the skirt. Blouses, sweaters…I even paired it with a t-shirt last week. The one thing that (almost) never changes about my office looks is the bag. It’s got to be a carryall of some sort. I rarely leave home without my iPad, my notebook, and there’s usually a magazine in there, too. I need a bag that can fit all of that – plus a couple of other things, too. Kate Spade’s Beau Bag has worked like a charm. I love the structured shape, and there’s plenty of room for whatever I want to tote around. The hidden pocket allows for extra organization, meaning my bag won’t turn into a giant black hole as it so often does.

Those are my workwear essentials. Tell me yours?

This always happens to me. By the time I’ve rounded up some favorite looks from London Fashion Week, Milan street style shots are already up. I admit I’m a little behind on this one, but I figured it was still worth a post. London’s looks were all very classic. It’s less of the neon and logo items that you see on the streets of NYFW. London showgoers keep it pretty clean and classic – and rain-proof, too! One thing I did see pop was a lot of red. (If you’re looking for a steal, check out these red pumps.) Maybe it was their way of brightening up those gray days.

I think you all are getting the picture from this post that my looks have been focused on the basics lately. This weekend I applied the same principle – classic boyfriend button-down and a pair of denim, but, thanks to the glorious (glo-ri-ous) weather we had this past weekend (highs in the low 80s and lows in the 60s!), I was able to add in some fall touches. I switched out my light-wash jeans for my (new) favorite coated pair and then added my C. Wonder leopard smoking slippers. I topped off the look with an essential leather carryall –  Kate Spade’s new Beau Bag. The good news is that this bag isn’t one that’s just reserved for fall. It’s one I’ll carry all year long, season after season.
