Did you know that July 5th marked the 66th anniversary of the bikini? (I celebrated accordingly by spending my day poolside.) What a transformation this garment has had!  From the full-coverage suits of the early 1900s to the itsy-bitsy bikinis we know today, Vogue has provided a look back for us with images from its archives. I love seeing all of these swimsuits in one place. What’s funny is that several of the swimsuits I’m seeing in some of the older images look a lot like what stores are carrying now. Fashion repeats itself, after all. The 1969 Bert Stern photograph above is my favorite. I would totally hit the beach in that white bikini. And that hat, too!

It was a very sad day when my parents informed my sister and me that they would be selling our house.  It’s hard to say goodbye to the home your grew up in… I’m sure some of you can relate? However, with this move came a brand new house, and you know what that means… a design project! It was a clean slate. My old bedroom hadn’t changed one bit since high school (lilac walls, homecoming mums, a Britney Spears poster, you get the idea), so this was an opportunity for a more “grown up” room. Plus, this gave me a chance to work with my favorite Dallas design duo Beth Dotolo and Carolina Gentry of Pulp Design Studios. They created the most beautiful space! It’s polished enough to be a guest room for visitors, but the details (bright orange accents, hello!) make it feel like me. Take a look at their blog for a peek into both my room and my sister’s.

… Juliet & Company earrings! After including these earrings in several posts over the past month, I just knew I had to have a pair of my own. They’ve been the perfect add-on to plenty of looks lately (turqouise earrings go with nearly everything, don’t you agree?). The shape is right on, and, though they look like the kind of earrings that might weigh you down, they’re actually very lightweight. Even better? They’re under $50.00 … which means I might just need one more pair. Perhaps, the coral color will do the trick?

This is not the post I intended to write today. Unfortunately, I ran into a few snags this weekend in getting the new site up. Transferring from Blogger to WordPress has proven to be a bit more difficult than I realized (yikes!). Sorry to disappoint. I’m hoping to have the new site up and running by the end of this week. Good things come to those who wait?

Happy Friday! I know I just got back from a vacay in California, but it’s been a long week and I’m looking forward to a little R&R over the next two days. The last couple of months have been a (wonderful) whirlwind. The result is that I’m going to be making a lot of changes in my life in the next few weeks. One of those changes includes a new job. I’ve been looking for something that will challenge me in a new way, while also allowing me to have more time to focus on this blog (Luella  & June is a full-time job, after all). It happens to be a dream job of mine, and it’s one that will provide a much better balance in my life. More to come on that later…

Another change on the way: Luella & June is getting a makeover! I’m so excited to announce that the site will be re-launching on Monday (cross your fingers) with a whole new look. This little blog has  grown so much in the last couple of years (thanks to all of you!), and it’s time to give it a fresh look. What do you think? Check back on Monday for the new Luella & June. Have a great weekend!

I’m a notetaker. As much as I rely on my iPhone/iPad for everything else in my life, I’m old fashioned when it comes to taking notes and making lists. I’m constantly writing (and re-writing) to-do lists, or jotting down blog ideas. I usually stick my Graphic Image notebook, but it might be fun to mix it up with these Russell & Hazel “Yummy” composition books. I love the bold graphics; and if notebooks were ever considered “seasonal,” these are right on for summer.
