One of the most difficult parts in any job (blogger or not) is simply figuring out how to get it all done. Between my “day job,” blogging, errands, and making time for friends and fam, I struggle with balance (I’m working on it). One of the things I find incredibly helpful is hearing how other people manage their time. This is exactly what Mimi + Meg’s GSD (“Get Shit Done”) series is all about – gaining insight into the tools, programs, and routines others use to manage their lives. I’m a huge fan of this series, and I was delighted when Meg asked me to be a part of it. Check out how I GSD right here.
July 31st. Where did the summer go? (Actually, where did the year go? We’re way past half way now.) July was a particularly good month: I celebrated the Fourth of July in California, quit one job to start another, launched a whole new Luella & June, and took a weekend vacay to Santa Fe. It’s been a busy 31 days. I can’t wait for August.
Remember how mesmerized you were when you first laid eyes on Cher Horowitz’s (we’re talking Clueless here) closet? All she had to do was scroll through her wardrobe pieces on her computer to put an outfit together. She was way ahead of us. If Cher had an iPhone, Stylebook would be her favorite app. Stylebook allows you to categorize your wardrobe on your iPhone, compare new purchases to what you already have in your closet, plan your outfits (mix and match different pieces!), and save your style inspirations all in one place. One of my favorite features of the app is the Packing List. I’m such a procrastinator when it comes to packing, and I’m usually trying to plan outfits in my head while I’m at work. This tool lets you plan out your looks with the outfit editor and then import them into a packing list. It makes it such easier to remember pieces that looked good together, and you can simply grab them out of your closet and throw them in a suitcase. This app makes navigating your closet just that simple!
While birthday and Christmas wish lists inevitably change year after year, there is one item that always makes it on to the list: a coffee table book (or four). I’ve told you all time and again how much I adore glossy tomes, but I thought I’d give you all a glimpse at what my little collection has amounted to in the past few years. These books not only keep me entertained and provide endless inspiration, but it just makes me so happy to see the stacks of them lined up on my coffee table every day.
The list really is endless (and ever-growing!), but here are a few of my very favorite coffee table books:
- Emilio Pucci
- The Allure of Women
- Avedon Fashion (1944-2000)
- Poolside with Slim Aarons
- Hitchcock Style
- The Perfectly Imperfect Home
- Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People
What are your favorites? I always love suggestions.

Happy Weekend! This week was jam packed full of things – the new blog design, guest posts, and deadlines at work. The good news is that when you’re that busy, the week seems to just fly by. And that’s good because I’ve been so excited about this weekend that I don’t think I could have waited much longer. Today is my boyfriend’s birthday (happy! happy!), and, to celebrate, we’re headed to Santa Fe, New Mexico for the next few days. Have any of you ever been there? Recs are welcome! It’ll be my first time, and I can hardly wait. It’s been on my to-visit list for awhile. On our list of activities: eating and drinking (first and foremost, obviously), visiting the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, heading to the galleries on Canyon Road, and squeezing in a little shopping in The Plaza. I’m hoping to come home with a turquoise piece (or two?). I can’t think of a better way to celebrate.
In the meantime, here are three links from the week that I think you all will enjoy:
- Olivia Palermo. I really couldn’t stand her on The City, but I can’t deny that her style is pretty much perfection. She’s just fun to look at. Her latest spread in Tatler Russia is no exception.
- I adore Jamie Meares. Nobody knows how to bring color (and print!) to a home quite like she does. Check out her Raleigh house project for some eye candy.
- Vogue’s Five Days, Five Looks, One Girl feature – love it! Who doesn’t want a little behind-the-scenes peek at the Vogue staffers’ style? The latest one highlights Bookings Editor Valerie Boster in Montauk. It just scream summer – and it makes me want a neoprene wet suite and a surf board.
Any fun plans for the weekend? Enjoy it!

So, what do you think about the new What I Love Right Now (WILRN) look? Since I was giving the blog a makeover, I figured it was time to give this spread a fresh look as well. Thoughts? I hope you enjoy it!
If you asked me which dress I just couldn’t live without this summer, it would be this little Thakoon caftan right here. It’s everything I love in a summer dress: lightweight, breezy, and colorful. Plus, it’s so easy to wear. It’s one of those pieces you just throw on and go. I’ve worn it a variety of different ways: with leather sandals for a more casual look during the day, with wedges or these silver heels at night, and even as a tunic over my white jeans. I’ve loved this piece so much that I’m almost tempted to invest in this updated sleeveless version (such a fab print, right?) . What’s your summer staple? Any pieces you just can’t live without?

It’s finally here! Although a week later than anticipated, the new look was well worth the wait (in my opinion). Over the past few months, I’ve been working away with the oh-so-lovely Hanna Seabrook of Gadabout on this big blog reveal. I can’t tell you how excited I am that it’s finally here! Like I told you all before, Luella & June has turned into something I never could have dreamed. It really is the best part of my day. It was time to give it a fresh look; one that really reflected my design aesthetic. The new design is exactly what I hoped for – clean and timeless, but still playful. I hope you all love it as much as I do. It’s a new chapter for Luella & June. So many good things to come…
