EDITORIAL: SUMMER OF FUN

Saying that I’m ready for summer is an understatement. Although I no longer have summer breaks (it’s called a j-o-b), there’s still something so special about the season – warmer weather, longer days, and, of course, summer style. This Elle France editorial has it all. Lensed by Ben Watts, the beachy spread features model Marloes Horst soaking up the sun in some fabulous summer brights, including designs be Celine and Bottega Veneta. (Side note: Have any of you all downloaded Ben Watts’ “Hipstamatic Bondi Hipstapak” lens? If not, you should. It’ll give you perfect sunkissed images – no matter where you are!) I hope you soak up some fun in the sun this weekend, readers!

AND THE WINNER IS…

Congrats to Annie of THE NOW Stylebook on winning the pair of chandelier drop earrings! The winner was chosen using a random number generator, and Annie was lucky number 10 on my entry spreadsheet.
It sounds like Annie is going to opt for the green pair – my favorite, too. Great choice! (By the way, if you haven’t already checked out The Now, you should! It’s an adorable blog full of all sorts of goodies.). Thank you so much to all who entered the giveaway. I was so thrilled by all of the responses. Keep your eye out for more giveaways in the future!

WHAT I LOVE RIGHT NOW

FIT TO BE TIED

Memorial Day To Do List: A DIY Proenza Schouler inspired rope necklace (preferably while lakeside). If you’ve tried your hand at friendship bracelets then this should be easy to tackle. I love the neon colors they choose for their accent strings and I know I’ll be searching out that hot pink one this weekend!

WARDROBE ENVY: OLIVIA PALERMO

I’m bringing back the “Wardrobe Envy” series here on the blog, and there’s no better person to restart it with than Miss Olivia Palermo. No matter what people say about Olivia’s “attitude” while on MTV’s The City, no one can deny that this lady has style – with a capital S. I am constantly saving pictures of her looks for inspiration (just take a peek at my Pinterest boards and you’ll see what I mean).  She has such knack for mixing and matching just the right pieces. Don’t you agree?  Here are a few ideas to help you get Olivia’s ultra-chic look.

GIVEAWAY! VERY VIVRE EARRINGS

What better way to start off a week than with a fabulous giveaway? You all know how much I love statement jewelry pieces – especially the earring kind – so you can imagine how thrilled I am that Vivre is offering to give one of Luella & June’s readers a pair of their super chic chandelier earrings. The winner will even get to choose from three chic color options – emerald, amethyst, or lapis. They’re pretty wonderful, aren’t they? I love how versatile they are – you could wear them to a cocktail party or simply throw them on with a white tee and jeans.
To enter for a chance to win,  simply leave us a comment on this post telling us which color you would choose if you won. Also, be sure to include your e-mail address so that I can contact you if you win! For an extra chance to win, you can tweet about this giveaway. Be sure to tag @LuellaAndJune and @Vivre_Eva and include the link to this post. Good luck!

All entries must be received by this Thursday, May 19, 2011. I will announce the winner on Friday, May 20.

DID YOU KNOW…

… that May is National Bike Month? Until yesterday, neither did I. It’s got me thinking about the last time I actually rode a bike, and I’m sad to say it’s been a very (read: 10 years) long time. Am I the only one that hasn’t ridden a bike forever? I basically live down the street from the most perfect bike trail, and I’m thinking I should utilize it a little more. One thing’s for sure: there’s no way I’ll look as chic as these ladies do on their bikes. (Hello, Olivia Palermo in her leather shorts!) Happy Weekend, readers!

STREET STYLE ROUND UP

Here’s a little street style round up for your Wednesday! I know yesterday was all about the monochromatic look, but these pictures are all about color blocking. I can’t get over all of the bright colors. I’m normally not a teal fan – the color has never looked good on me – but the pictures above and below have me rethinking my opinion on the blue-green hue (of course, just about anything would look good with an Hermés Constance bag.) And how about that twilly scarf wrapped around the bag handle? Such a chic detail!

GET THE LOOK: MONOCHROMATIC

I’m really loving all of the monochromatic looks I’ve been seeing lately. I’m used to seeing the classic white-on-white look (one of my favorites), but recently there’s been a lot of tonal ensembles in other colors. Getting this look right really comes down to one thing: pairing different shades of the same color together. Wearing the same shade of one color from head-to-toe just doesn’t work (I even think an all black look could use a hint of gray somewhere). If you’re not quite ready to do the full-blown monochromatic look then add in subtle accents colors with your accessories.I think Eva Longoria got the look just right! Tan is such a flattering color on her, and she mixed the different tones of brown together perfectly. What do you think?
