One of the most important rules in fashion: accessories make an outfit. The right accessories – handbags, shoes, jewelry – can take you from simply putting on clothing to coordinating the ideal ensemble. The perfect necklace or handbag can take your simple tee and jeans from casual to uber-chic. Accessories should be added to your outfit to create a complete clothing look. Try adding at least 2 or 3 accessories to to each outfit – this little trick will not only make you look consistently chic but it will also increase your wardrobe tenfold.
3 accessories to think about this fall:
1. The Head Band
Take a cue from my favorite Gossip Girl character – Blair Waldorf. Why does Miss B always look so pulled together? It’s not always about what’s on her body but rather what’s on her head! From satin to prints, bows to feathers, Blair’s head is always dressed to a T. The headband is a simple way to add a delicate, feminine touch to your look. (On another note, how much longer must I wait until I am reunited with Blair, Chuck, and the rest of the GG crew?)
2. The Statement Necklace
For all of those who have been devout followers of Luella and June, you know all about the statement necklace. This piece is one that stands alone, it need not be coupled with any other major accessories. For a cocktail party, take your favorite statement necklace and pair it with that strapless LBD and your favorite clutch (no other accessories needed). Or when you’re running out the door in your skinny jeans and gray tee - throw on the necklace for an edgier look. Let your necklace do all the talking for a change. Check out: assadmounser.com
H&M Fall 2009
(perhaps my favorite pictorial this season)
This is one trend you can count on for all seasons: fall, winter, summer or spring, the scarf is a consistent must-have. This fall we change our focus on scarves to a new direction. Think neons and prints. If you’re wearing a mono-color ensemble (all black, for example) the scarf is an easy way to pop some color in there. The printed scarf – Hermes is the ultimate here – can transform your outfit in one single wrap. Check out: shopbop.com

So very Parisian-chic
Martine Ilana’s La Mer Watch Collection has personalized the wrap watch. Offering dozens of design combinations and a very affordable price tag, these watches are the perfect update for your watch collection.
NY up and comer (Amanda) Assad Mounser makes each piece of her jewelry by hand. Her goregous creations are meant to inspire styles both feminine and edgy.
These statement pieces are sure to be a hit this fall!
September (the “January” of the fashion world) is quickly approaching and that can mean only one thing: fall fashion. For my debut post here on Luella & June, I am going to introduce the stand-out trends you’ll be seeing (and coveting) this fall. Check back for all of your fashion updates!
1. ’80s Revival
The trend leading the way for all other trends this season is undoubtedly the revamp of the ’80s. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, and Christophe Decarnin at Balmain took the key looks from the glorious decade – glitz, color, and pouf – and put them into their newest collections. Think: acid-washed jeans, one-shoulder dresses, and Ray-Bans (just don’t wear them all at once).

2. The New Boot
Julia Roberts made them famous in Pretty Woman: the thigh-high boot is a must-have this season. Wear them pulled over your skinny jeans or with your hottest mini.
Shocking pinks, greens and yellows: no longer are these colors exclusive to the spring season. Every designer from Marc Jacobs to Michael Kors featured these bright hues in their Fall collections. To get the bright look via accessories, check out Toywatch’s Plasteramic Collection (Toywatchusa.com). The brighter the better!
4. Leather Love
The fashion world is currently having a love affair with leather – and there is no better way to spread the love than with a fabulous pair of leather trousers. My favorites: The Row, Matthew Williamson, and Helmut Lang. Check out one of your favorite twins sporting this trend below!
5. Strong Shoulders
Another nod to the ’80s are the strong, raised shoulders we saw all over the Fall ’09 runways. These sculpted shoulders are a more a subtle and wearable version of the famous (or infamous) ’80s shoulder pads.
Sequins are all the rage this season. The designers have given just about everything a sequin look – from minis to sweatshirts to the shoes on your feet. Your inspiration: Chic-Vegas.
